Everybody knows it: parents are the taxi drivers of their children. A fast drive to kindergarten, to school, or to a birthday party and once you have arrived, you do a short stop and your child gets off the car. Hey, wait a minute! Please do not let children get off on their own and make sure they get off at the sidewalk-side. This can save lives!

For parents it is most convenient to combine taking children with other things. Many children are dropped off on the way to work. Other parents combine it with shopping. This way you can kill two birds with one stone. All you need to do is a fast stop at the side of the street, your child gets off the car and you can move on.

But did you know that children start to develop an awareness of the dangers in traffic at the age of eight, sometimes ten years? Thus, it is very important that parents and other adults take proper care of them.

The road safety expert of the Allianz Insurance Group, Christian Weishuber, recommends to teach and train children from the very beginning, to get on and off a car on the sidewalk-side only. Small children should not be allowed to get off a car on their own.

The best is to help children to get off the car by opening the door, takeing their hand, and guideing them to the sidewalk. This is especially important in case the sidewalk is also used by bicyclists or there is a bicycle lane.

幼稚園へ、学校へ、親友の家へと連れて行く、それに合わせて仕事に出かけたり、ついでに買い物に行ったりと1石2鳥です。目的地でストップして子供を下ろして先に進む。

しかしここで気をつければならない事は、子供はだいたい8歳から10歳の間に道路での安全性の認識をしてくる事です。ですから親は子供の道路での必要な安全性に配慮しなければいけません。

アリアンツ保険会社の交通安全専門家であるクリスティアン・ヴァイスフーベルさんは、お子さんに最初から常に歩道側から乗降する事を習慣づけさせる事を勧めています。また小さなお子さんは、必ず親が車から降ろす事です。

一番安全なのは、親が車のドアを開けて、子供の手を取って歩道へ誘導する事です。特に歩道に自転車道があり、これが車道と歩道に挟まれている状態には必要です。
