Many buildings have installed fire hydrants. They are designed to not only be operated by the fire department but also by laymen during the development phase of a fire. Frequently wall hydrants are located together with a fire extinguisher in a wall hydrant cabinet.

A wall hydrant should be operated as follows:

1. Open the valve by turning the handwheel counterclockwise.

2. Grab the nozzle and unroll the hose as much as necessary.

3. Use caution when there is electrical equipment up to 1000 V and keep a minimum distance of 3 m.

4. After use, close the valve by turning the handwheel clockwise.

In the case of a small fire, a regular fire extinguisher should be used first if available.

多くの建築物にはこのような消火栓が壁に設置されています。この消火栓は火災時に消火用水を引く為、もしくは、火災初期の火事鎮火用に使用します。この壁にとりつけてある消火栓は消火器と同等の役割をするもで、素人にも扱えるものなのです。一般に手動消火栓の納入装置には、消火器もおいてある事が多いようです。

この取り扱い手順は：

１．給水栓を左向きに回して開ける。

２．放射パイプを取り出しホースを必要なだけ引き出す。

３．電化製品に使う場合は特に気をつけます。１０００ボルトまでは最低3メートルの間隔をとります。

４．使用後は、給水栓を右に回して水を止めます。

消火器で間に合うようであれば、消火器を使用します。
