The public transportation system is superb, trains are clean and run on time. During peak hours between 7am-9am and 6pm-11pm commuter trains and underground metro can be very crowded. Incidents of molested females have been an infamous topic for years. Japanese and foreign women have been groped or touched on crowded trains. On certain routes the Japan Railway Company (JR) provides cars which are for women only during peak hours. Check out the platform and look for the women's only cars or simply avoid traveling during the peak hours especially when traveling with luggage. If you're groped or touched while on the train make a scene in any language and create public attention. The grabber will be embarrassed by the attention. Report the incident.
