Einige japanische Parkanlagen sind mit Sitzbänken ausgestattet, die sich im Notfall als Kocheinheit nutzen lassen. Als Resultat der Lehren aus dem Erdbeben von Kôbe (1995) sowie des Tôhoku-Erdbebens (2011) wurde landesweit mit der Installation dieser speziellen Sitzbänke begonnen. Mittlerweile werden die Bänke nicht nur in öffentlichen Parks sondern auch in Wohngebieten und zunehmend auch auf privaten Grundstücken installiert. Die Bänke sind derart konstruiert, dass sich die eigentliche Bank abschrauben lässt. Darunter verbirgt sich die Kocheinheit aus Grill, Windschutz und Konstruktion für die Platzierung von Töpfen beziehungsweise Pfannen.

In Japan, some public parks are equipped with benches which can be turned into cooking units. As a result of the Great Hanshin Earthquake (1995) and the Great East Japan Earthquake (2011) these benches are being installed throughout the country. They are not only installed in public parks but also increasingly in residential areas and on grounds owned by private companies. The benches are designed in such a way that the part which provides the seating can be taken off. Basically, the bench is unscrewed and removed from the cooking unit and can still be used as a bench. The cooking unit consists of grill, wind shield, and a construction for placing pots and pans on.
