In durch Erdbeben bedrohten Regionen sollte man sich stets über die aktuelle Höhe sowie die Entfernung zum Meer bewusst sein.

Recently in Japan, many coastal areas are equipped with signs indicating the elevation of the area.

This sign for example reads

"The elevation of the surrounding area is aproximately 28 m."

Further it informs

"In case of earthquake or tsunami, go to high ground or inland."

As earthquakes occur frequently, it is a good idea to always be aware of ones current elevation and the proximity to the sea.
