Im internationalen Luftverkehr wird Reisegepäck einer Inspektion unterzogen. Werden im Zuge der Röntgendurchleuchtung verdächtige oder nicht identifizierbare Gegenstände in einem Gepäckstück entdeckt, muss dieses geöffnet werden. Dies geschieht häufig ohne Absprache mit dem Besitzer des Gepäckstücks, so dass am Gepäckstück angebrachte Schlösser aufgebrochen werden. Mit einem TSA-Schloss ausgestattetes Reisegepäck hingegen kann von Sicherheitsbehörden mit einem Generalschlüssel geöffnet werden. Nach erfolgter Inspektion wird das Gepäckstück wieder verschlossen. Für Auslandsreisen empfehle ich daher die Verwendung von Gepäckstücken und Gepäckriemen mit TSA-Schloss. Diese erkennen Sie an in den Schließmechanismus eingravierte “TSA”-Buchstaben sowie an dem sechseckigen TSA-Logo (siehe beigefügte Fotos).

Checked travel bags at airports for international travels, etc. are opened regardless of a lock in place, which will be cut or destroyed for inspection purposes.

As such, many worry not being able to lock their luggage.

However, not to worry if you owned a TSA approved lock.
Travel bags with these approved locks are opened from the bottom by TSA officials using a special device. Once the inspection is complete, it is locked again by the TSA officials.
Meaning, the travel bags are opened only during the TSA inspection making it more reassuring to check the bags.
