Infolge des großen Erdbebens im Nordosten Japans vom 11. März 2011 ereigneten sich am Kernkraftwerk Fukushima mehrere Explosionen. Die auf den Atomunfall folgende Evakuierung des Gebiets rund um das Kraftwerk hatte zur Folge, dass eine Vielzahl an (Haus)tieren zurückgelassen werden musste. Viele Menschen sind nun auf der Suche nach ihren verlorenen Tieren. Tierbesitzer sollten aus der Katastrophe lernen und sich Gedanken über den Umgang mit Tieren im Katastrophenfall machen. Tiere die an der Leine geführt werden können zum Beispiel mit Halsbändern, die über einen Mikrochip verfügen ausgestattet werden. Eine weitere Möglichkeit sind mit einer persönlichen Identifikation (ID) versehene Anhänger.

Shortly after the Great East Japan Earthquake on 11March 2011 several explosions occurred at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The nuclear accident resulted in the evacuation of the area around the power plant. Due to the hastily organized evacuation many animals and pets had to be left in the area. Many people are now looking for their lost animals. Owners of animals and pets should learn from the disaster and prepare themselves and their animals by planning in advance how to proceed should a disaster arise. Animals which are kept on a leash can wear collars equipped with a microchip for example. Another possibility is to attach a pendant or badge with personal identification (ID) to the collar.
