You pull up to the gas station to fill up your car. Being in a hurry or distracted by mistake you choose the wrong nozzle and only realize your mistake once the car is filled up. What to do?

Recently, in Germany the diesel nozzles are wider than the ones of regular fuel. They do not fit to cars with regular fuel engines. Thus it can only happen to put regular fuel to a diesel. In the past, it was possible to mix diesel and regular fuel. Especially in winter, at freezing temperatures it was common to add some regular fuel to diesel fuel to prevent freezing of the diesel. Nowadays, adding regular fuel to diesel engines with common-rail technology and high-pressure fuel injection would kill your engine.

If you put regular fuel to a diesel engine you must not turn on the engine. The fuel needs to be drained on the spot or you need to have your car towed to a garage. Having your car towed and the fuel drained is always cheaper than getting a new engine.

In case it should happen that the fuel tank of a regular car was filled with diesel, the engine will not break. It will simply stop. Also in this case you will have to drain and clean the fuel tank.

ガソリンを入れる時に注意をそらされたり、考え事をしていると、間違った給油を入れる事があります。ディーゼル車にレギュラー、または普通の車に軽油を入れてしまいます。それに給油が終わってから気づいたらどうしたらいいでしょう。

ドイツでは少し前までは、ガソリンスタンドでレギュラーと軽油を間違える事は考えられました。最近のスタンドでは軽油用のピストル（車の給油口に入れるシャフトの先）が太くされているため、レギュラー用の車の給油口に合わなくされました。ただし、軽油車にレギュラーを給油するという間違いのケースは考えられます。以前は軽油にレギュラーが少し入ってもたいしたことはありませんでした。特に冬場の寒波では軽油が滑らかになり、エンジンがスムーズにかかるようにわざとレギュラーを少し混ぜたものです。しかし現在のインジェクターを使用してるコモンレール式のディーゼルエンジンにレギュラー燃料が混入しているという事は致命的です！こうなったら助かるのはこれしかありません：

決してエンジンをかけてはいけません！その場所ですぐにガソリンを抜くか、ガソリンを抜きシステムを換気するために専門工場に牽引させるかです。このほうが新しいエンジンと取り替えるよりも断然安くつきます。

もしもレギュラー車に軽油を給油することがおこってしまった時には、エンジンは起動しません。エンジンの故障とはなりませんが、軽油を抜いて清浄をしなければいけません。
