Ocean Safety - Waves Break on Ledge

People who lack ocean knowledge are very often not aware of the danger they face when climbing on rocks at the shoreline. This video, taken at Pupukea Beach Park, Oahu, Hawaii in 2011 shows how dangerous it can be to underestimate the forces of the ocean. Being swept off can result in severe injuries and even death.

For your own safety there are simple rules to follow at the ocean:

Look for, read and obey all beach safety signs and symbols.

Ask lifeguards or local people about beach and surf conditions.

If in doubt, just stay out!
