The north-facing coastal area of the Island of O'ahu is called The North Shore. It is world famous for its large winter surf and swells. Every year in December, a number of competitions are hosted at what is known to be the surfing mecca of the world. Many tourists from all over the world attend these events as spectators.

Especially during winter months entering the ocean at North Shore beaches can be very dangerous due to strong currents and rip currents.

Always look for, read and obey all beach safety signs!

If in doubt, don´t go out!
