Safety rules for hiking

Don´t go hiking alone. In case of an emergency you don´t want to be by yourself. Before setting out, leave a copy of your itinerary with a relative or friend. The itinerary should include data such as names and ages of all participants, planned route, return date, and license plate number in case a car is used.

In case you will be entering a remote area, your group should consist of a minimum of four people. In case of an injury, one person can stay with the injured while the other two people seek help. Get properly informed before entering an unknown area or have someone familiar with the terrain.

Before entering a remote area, know the location of the nearest road, telephone, ranger station, or any other building where you could seek help in case of an emergency.

Appropriate clothing and shoes for the trail and season are fundamental.

Always know the current and predicted weather conditions and observe the weather. Be prepared for changing weather conditions.
