Open fires and fuel-burning stoves when camping

Never use open flames, fuel-burning stoves, heaters or candles within a tent. Use a flashlight or battery-powered light instead. Open fires and fuel-burning devices must be placed far away from the tent to prevent it from catching fire. The direction of wind should be taken into consideration before starting a fire. Flames and sparks can set a tent on fire. After finding a safe place for your fire make sure it is attended at all times.

When using a propane or fuel-burning stove, read the instructions that come with the stove and propane cylinder. Never leave it unattended when it is burning.

When putting out a fire, drown it with plenty of water or cover it entirely up with sand. All embers, coals and sticks need to be wet or entirely covered with sand. When pouring water, keep in mind that embers buried at the bottom of the pile may reignite hours later.
